So, last week was the big nerd prom, San Diego ComiCon. And it was great. Exhausting as all get out, but still fantastic. Professionally speaking, my best SDCC to date.
But, in spite of all the running around the floor to meet up with various people, I did manage to get in some stuff to appease the fanboy in me.
The Doctor Who panel was very entertaining. Writer and new showrunner Steven Moffat (a genius who I idolize) was on panel to discuss the show and some of the episodes he wrote for the previous seasons (The Empty Child, The Doctor Dances, Girl In The Fireplace, Blink, Silence In The Library, and Forest Of The Dead). He was clearly jet lagged, which only seemed to add a bit of a bite to his comedy. For fans of Coupling, he was everything you'd expect from the man.
I was also able to meet him briefly at his signing later. I generally don't get nervous around celebrities, but he made me a little shakey. I hope I didn't come off as a complete pratt. But if I did, I'm sure he won't remember.

The gang from Spaced was also on hand. I was fortunate enough to see them at their signing. Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes were all genuinely quite warm towards the fans. A few brief words with them were quite worth the wait in line.
The entire cast of Dr. Horrible were on hand. I couldn't get pictures, but it was great meeting them and telling them how much I loved it. I've met Joss before, which was the big one for me. One of these days I'll actually get a decent picture with him. But, I was able to give him one of my books, which he seemed to really like. Well, the art anyway...which I didn't do...
Hey, screw you, man. It was still cool.
Another cool happenstance happened at the end of Saturday. I stopped at a booth to admire some paintings. Very pulpie looking stuff with hot girls and imminent danger sort of thing. I even started chatting with someone else admiring the art who looked quite familiar. I think I realized who it was just a moment before my buddy asked for a picture.
Matt Groening is such a cool and down to earth guy. I'm very pleased to have run into him.
Bruce Campbell stopped in on the Dark Horse panel to talk about his new film "My Name Is Bruce". The clips shown were awesome and he was incredibly funny on panel.
BTW - If you aren't watching Burn Notice...do yourself a favor. It's not great, but it is a lot of fun.
Oh, and I was also at the Big Bang Theory panel which was a lot of fun. Everyone in the cast was very funny and they showed a lot of great clips from the first season (I was hoping for a sneak at season 2, but alas...).
There were other panels and things I'm just blanking on right now, but overall it was a great time. I'm exhausted, but am already looking forward to next year.
